diverse sere fa un’email di iTunes mi avvisava che nel Music Store era disponibile “Goodbye Alice in Wonderland”, l’ultimo album di Jewel e incuriosita dal titolo ho deciso di prenderlo (non esattamente tramite iTunes, ma questi sono dettagli…): è bello.
del tipo che se ci avessi speso soldi, non me ne sarei pentita.
a me Jewel non ha mai entusiasmato particolarmente. brava e molto, assolutamente si, ma troppo spesso i suoi testi sembravano provenire dal bel mezzo di una depressione acuta e senza ritorno. va bene che le canzoni migliori nascono sempre da periodi ed eventi negativi, dicono, ma insomma …
adesso non voglio dire che “Goodbye Alice in Wonderland” sia allegrissimo, ma non so perché mi infonde una certa positività. sarà ché in fondo parla di crescita, cambiamento e amore e ultimamente sono tutti argomenti che mi stanno molto a cuore.
musicalmente è molto ben suonato, un pop tipico di Jewel che non ha niente di banale e che spesso e volentieri lascia in bocca un piacevole retrogustro country-rock, con la chitarra che viene sempre e comunque fuori e le lyrics a tratti serrate cantate-parlate da una voce delicata, che a volte diventa splendidamente sporca.

ne approfitto e dalla title track prendo in prestito una strofa …
